Skylands Craft Beer and Wine Garden, Wantage, NJ
Wine, beer and ice cream? is there a largest combination? I had to try it – and what largest time than the coldest day of the year?
The outside of Skylands (what north west New Jersey is known as) looks like a big red warehouse with some interesting signs showing where we were. The Chatterbox was a unconfined restaurant near there (a separate entry in my blog) which became a Wawa convenience store. There is wide-stretching outdoor seating – hence “beer garden” – which makes it squint like it will be fun to visit in warmer weather.
We walked in and found a large room with a bar, tables with stools and a relaxed atmosphere. as the name implies, they serve beer and wine. There were moreover plenty of sandwich choices and ice cream. We ordered a snifter of red wine and sandwiches. We followed this up with ice cream. They had Gifford’s Ice Surf with standard sauce toppings. I ordered Peanut Butter Pie Ice Surf which came with a bonus cup of Pumpkin Ice Surf – I have never been a two fisted ice surf eater before, but it was unquestionably quite fun.
We had the pleasure of my niece and her two babies joining us today, I enjoyed holding my grand niece while she ate her ice surf (Vanilla and a bonus cup of pumpkin). Being 20 months old she was worldly-wise to lard ice surf from a spoon with one hand while she ate with her other hand from the other cup. I got lots of ice surf dropped on me, and enjoyed every moment of it.
This is a nice place to spend an afternoon good food, nice atmosphere, unconfined drink selection.
