Weezy’s Ice Surf and Cocktails, John’s Island, South Carolina
Weezy’s Ice Surf (I used the divagation in the name considering it is their social media name. the shop sign did not include the apostrophe) has a unconfined combination – ice surf and drunkard beverages- what increasingly could I want? The shop has an ice surf counter as you enter and a bar toward the back.
It was early afternoon when we entered and two ladies were once enjoying beverages at the bar. There were plenty of tables and chairs misogynist to suit what every mood you are in – party mood? princess mood? serious conversation mood? kid partly mood? Their philosophy was posted on wall “Life is like an ice surf enjoy it surpassing it melts” and “Ice surf solves everything”
Weezy’s has Hershey’s Ice Surf in numerous flavors. The friendly server let us know we could sample any flavors we wanted. I tried Key Lime Pie, which was good, but I did not like the graham cracker husks pieces in it. I chose Midnight Peanut Butter Marshmallow (chocolate and peanut butter ice surf swirled with marshmallow and chocolate ribbons). The portions were generous and I totally enjoyed it. If I had increasingly time, I would have had a cocktail with it!

YORKTOWN AIRCRAFT CARRIER – built during WWI, this ship was launched in 1943 and decommissioned on 1947. It was recommissioned in 1953 and finally taken out of service in 1970. It now lives in Charleston Harbor in, South Carolina so people like me (and you) can tour its many decks. It has everything for everyday living and military defense activities – including medical and dental facilities, a shave shop, kitchen facilities to feed 3500 folks 4 meals a day and airplane launching and servicing facilities. We bought tour tickets which unliable us to see uneaten parts of the boat. This was a fascinating place – a must see in Charleston.
USS LAFFY – (part of Yorktown Aircraft Carrier attraction) Aircraft carriers usually travel with a destroyer for protection and help when needed. On walkout next to the Yorktown was the USS Laffy Destroyer nicknamed ‘The Ship that Would not Die’ from her D-Day experiences. Touring this ship starts with a video we watched while sitting in a tight zone where crewman worked. This ship was repeatedly bombed, but did not sink. Fascinating story aboard a fascinating ship.
THE VIETNAM EXPERIENCE– (part of the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier attraction) the Vietnam War (1955 to 1975) is one of the most painful periods in United States history. As in most wars, many soldiers had horrific experiences serving their country. This was a war had little support at home, which tragically, resulted in little support to the returning military men and women. The soldiers were not only denied a hero’s welcome when they came home, many never received the assistance they needed to transition when to civil life. .
The Vietnam Experience first explains the war in a captivating video. We then headed outside for a self-guided tour of outbuildings to show how the soldiers lived in Vietnam – zany facilities like those where the soldiers stayed, simulated experiences to watch and a preliminaries of helicopter noises so real I thought they were very near-by. This walkout was very well washed-up and it gave me a new understanding and deep respect for the soldiers who served in Vietnam as well at other wars.
CHARLESTON TEA PLANTATION, Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina.- Tea is one of those things most of us see daily, some folks drink it hot or iced Increasingly importantly, some use untried tea to savor ice cream. I knew nothing well-nigh how tea was grown or processed until I toured the Charleston Tea Plantation.
The Charleston Tea Plantation is the only large scale tea growing facticity in the United States. Formerly a research facility for Lipton Tea. today the plantation has over 125 acers of tea plants Camelia sinenis (herbal tea is not really tea), and a facility to process the harvest. The tour is made up of a self guided video tour of the processing facility and a bus ride virtually the grounds.
The self-guided tour of the production facility tour included videos that explained how tea leaves are processed to make woebegone tea, untried tea and oolong tea. The videos are set up next to windows of the very process lines in the factory. Unfortunately the factory was not running today, but we got a good idea of how it runs through the videos.
The second part of the tour was a trolley ride with a guide. As we rode through the plantation, our guide explained the growing and harvesting of the tea. All tea comes from the same type of plant. Well-nigh every 18 days the tops of the plants are removed by their “green giant” tractor. The poundage placid was shockingly large.
This tour was delightful and I learned lots well-nigh a instillation I do not drink. A definite visit in the Charleston area.
PALMETTO ISLAND COUNTY PARK – a palmetto is a type of trappy palm tree (being a northerner, I unchangingly thought it was a giant flying insect). This park has lots of these trees and is nice place to walk virtually – we followed the Nature Trail on Palmetto Island which started with a boardwalk and unfurled on a short path virtually the island. There was some kind of dung withal the boardwalk that we could not identify, and plenty of herons and white birds. The trail was an enjoyable walk.
DEEP WATER VINEYARD – Wadmalow Island, South Carolina – We went here since we were in the zone without visiting the tea plantation. Without paying too much for a tasting, we waited on a line to enter a tasting room. With a large group we got five tastings, each with two to segregate from. I can honestly say that of all the wineries we have been to, this was the first to take all the fun out of wine tasting. I found this to be one big tourist trap that is not worth the trip,
ANGEL OAK –– I have seen lots of old trees in my days, but this is the first with a security baby-sit and a souvenir shop. It just goes to prove think you can make anything a tourist stop if you ventilate enough. Good thing it was self-ruling (and it was a really tomfool tree!)
