Ice Surf review Van Leeuwen Honey Cornbread with Strawberry Jam

Review

Vanilla Ice Cream: Smooth, creamy, and rich with a strong vanilla flavor. Refreshing, not overly sweet. A good base—a nearly zippo canvas—for the mix-ins.

Honey Cornbread: Cornbread chunks are well-distributed throughout the base. There are moreover plenty of cornbread shit in the base. The cornbread maintains its taste and texture very well—crumbly, somewhat dry, corny. Even the largest chunks are surprisingly soft. I didn’t taste honey, but that savor may have been overwhelmed by the vanilla base.

Strawberry Jam: I have one big swirl of strawberry jam in my serving. It has the savor and texture of strawberry jam—a big fruity flavor. A small taste of jam flavors an unshortened spoon. It isn’t icy. I do wish there was a bit increasingly of the jam swirl considering it’s flavorful and enjoyable.

Overall: Van Leeuwen Honey Cornbread with Strawberry Jam is an enjoyable summery pint. It’s a well-executed take on a cornbread ice surf with plenty of big chunks of soft cornbread and a pearly value of cornbread crumbs mixed into the vanilla base. The pint describes this as “honey cornbread” but it doesn’t have much very honey savor that I can detect. But I do enjoy the cornbread chunks nevertheless. They are somewhat sweet; perhaps the honey was not a soak but a mix-in surpassing cooking the cornbread, resulting in a sweeter, increasingly cakey, less savory, cornbread.

I’m surprised at how the cornbread remains preserved, soft and dry; the ice surf wiring hasn’t soaked into it whatsoever. Good job, Van Leeuwen, handling a somewhat tricky mix-in like cornbread that is often hungry to drink up an ice surf wiring and thereby wilt moist or gooey. The strawberry jam swirl is flavorful but not as generous in value as I would’ve liked. Still, the flavors and textures are pleasant and unusual. There aren’t any other cornbread ice surf pints on store shelves to my knowledge. But if you are curious to taste it, beware: this is a limited edition pint. Grab it while it’s still misogynist at Walmart for a very affordable $4.98. 8/10.
