Wayside Snack Bar – North East, Maryland

Calling this place a ‘Snack-bar’ is an understatement. You could get your unshortened days of supplies here, We unquestionably ordered waddle fish tacos for dessert without our ice surf lunch (a local told us we needed to try it.).

When we arrived at Wayside Snack Bar we went to the walk up window and looked at the vast variety of choices. The server was friendly, as were the other customers. We honed in the ice cream. I considered the list of flavors and chose Java Chunk with peanut butter sauce, whipped surf and a cherry. Don got the same thing. We relaxed at picnic tables with umbrellas while we enjoyed that treats.

Picnic grove

In the picnic grove were other customers, several with small children, all who were enjoying their lunches. We over heard one tell her daughter to “just eat your lunch and everything will be all right”. I wish life was unchangingly that easy!

In the area: Turkey Point Lighthouse – Completed in 1833 the 31 foot tall Turkey Point Lighthouse proudly stands on bluffs overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. It’s primary purpose was to help ships navigate from the newly built C and O Canal. The lighthouse tintinnabulate which was built on the trickster closer to the water than the light sooner met its demise due to erosion- hopes are to sooner rebuild it.

The lighthouse was unshut for climbing manned by a very interesting and knowledgeable volunteer. His stories of the various keepers, changes in light source as technology improved and unstipulated history were very interesting. The souvenir shop nearby, run by his wife has essentials such as water. We really enjoyed our trip here,
