Ben and Jerry’s, Yorktown, Virginia
Yorktown Virginia is known for its colonial history – Yorktown Battlefield, Coloanal Williamsburg and numerous historical buildings, monuments and, museums. As the guest of Lester Walter we were here to wits history, expressly as it relates to fife and pulsate music. We found Ben and Jerry’s withal the trappy water front in Yorktown.
The walkway in front of the shop was red brick with perfectly manicured shrubs. Inside the shop was neat, wipe and nicely decorated with a sign up that said “try your two favorite flavors in a waffle cone”, I decided to take take their translating and ordered a scoop of Peanut Butter Cup Sundae and a scoop of Cherry Garda in a chocolate-coated, rainbow-sprinkled waffle cone. I got two scoops of Peanut Butter Cup Sundae, which I enjoyed – but I did not get the cherry Garda, and I love cherry ice cream, The scoops were generous and the waffle cone was good. There was plenty of indoor seating and a trappy waterfront to walk an while enjoining the treats.
In the area: We hands could have spent several days in Yorktown, but we allotted only one, so we had to be selective in what we saw,
Schooner Alliance – a schooner is a sailing ship with at least two masts. This ship had three. We were with our friends Larry and Karen who met working sailing ships such as these in New York. They have unchangingly loved these ships, so we were glad to share this wits with them.
This was a fun trip – a sail on the York River narrated by one of the deckhands with an incredibly dry sense of humor (like mine). We learned a lot well-nigh the history and present geography of the zone and a lot well-nigh sailing a ship as large as this one. I got to help put the sails up – all the weightlifting I do at the gym really paid off. I recommend this trip if you are in Yorktown.
Freedom Park – we took our bikes for a ride here, there were some hills that felt steep going down, but not so steep riding up (the reverse of usual). There were moreover plenty of side trails which were fun to ride on our trail bikes.
This park had a small and very nice botanical garden with several sections demonstrating variegated plant environments such as “Wetlands” or “English Style Perennial Garden”. The garden had a mission of educating folks well-nigh plant life in variegated areas, and the did an incredibly good job on this.
Freedom Park moreover had three cabins from one of the primeval self-ruling woebegone settlements, Each motel had information well-nigh the motel and the preliminaries of possible occupants. This was quite interesting as well.
Colonial National Historical Park Yorktown Battlefield – this was thrilling considering I finally got to use my lifetime National Park Pass! We walked virtually the indoor displays and watched a movie well-nigh the wrestle of Yorktown – the real turning point in the revolutionary war. After visiting this place, it seems like the real determining factor in the winner of the war unquestionably came lanugo to weather, Larry had an incredible grasp on history and put many of the events in historical context for us. He asked the ranger questions that I did not understand and the ranger gave answers that I moreover did not understand. I guess my grasp of history is a bit weak.. The displays were very interesting and this is moreover a good stop in Yorktown, We did not momentum virtually the battleground due to lack of time,
Colonial Williamsburg – Drummers Call – This trip was to see various fife and pulsate corps preform at Colonial Williamsburg and jam with them. The jamming thing did not happen, but a torch light tattoo during the evening and a parade the next day did. The music was both old familiar ones and new music and included numerous corps.
Waller Mill State Park , Williamsburg, Virginia– An wondrous lake with scenic shores, a subconscious tunnel, rental kayaks – what’s not to love? Today there were groups of fireman having water rescue drills which we stopped to watch (I was not sure if they thought “damn tourists” or “enthusiastic spectators”).
We then took a walk on their nature trail with some informational placards. Coming back, we ran into a couple with a lady who fell and was not worldly-wise to get up. Don went to the park headquarters to get her help, I stayed with the couple. The firemen had just finished their drill when Don got there. This lady got the weightier EMS response overly – 2 dozen firemen, and ATV, a stokes basket, first aid kits etc. In the parking lot, an ambulance and firetruck were waiting for her. Guess she got increasingly sustentation that she really craved.
Marine Corps Museum – the Marine Corps, started in 1775, has a long and fascinating history of fighting defending American interests virtually the world. This museum is self-ruling and really worth a visit.
Celebrating both the present day and the history of the Marines, this museum is well designed and interesting. There are sections for each skirmish or wrestle they have been involved in. vehicles, descriptions of vital training (I do not think I could live through the crucible!) and a host of other displays. It is fascinating for both Marines and civilians.
